Goals and Outcomes

Goal 1: Improve the environment for student learning by increasing faculty engagement with metacognition principles.

Outcome 1: Faculty will participate in collaborative mentoring focused on active learning strategies and metacognition principles.

Strategy 1: Introduce the Study Cycle to faculty.

Strategy 2: Introduce the Testing Effect, which emphasizes the importance of incorporating frequent self-assessment into a study routine, to faculty.

Strategy 3: Read and discuss the QEP curriculum focused on teaching and learning using the text How Learning Works: Seven Research-Based Principles for Smart Teaching by Ambrose, et. al.

Strategy 4: Faculty facilitate in their QEP peer group meetings on metacognition principles.

Outcome 2: QEP faculty will complete a course design that integrates metacognition principles and active learning strategies.

Strategy 1: QEP faculty participate in course design workshops.

Strategy 2: QEP faculty implement their course design.

Goal 2: Improve the learning environment through students' understanding and application of metacognition principles.

Outcome 1: Students in QEP courses will recognize the role of active learning strategies in deep learning.

Strategy 1: Students in QEP courses will be introduced to the Study Cycle and the Testing Effect.

Strategy 2: Students in QEP courses will self-report their attitudes and behaviors in response to the student-centered, engaging QEP course designed to enhance learning through a pre and post test administration of the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory.
